Bluetooth BMS companion: see inside your battery

A smart BMS is optional — but it turns guesswork about range and health into per-cell facts. Which ones work, how pairing works during registration, and what the numbers mean.

Your GPS tracker reports location, trips and alerts — everything in the app works with that alone. A Bluetooth battery management system (BMS) is the optional second layer: it reports what is happening inside the pack, per cell, over Bluetooth when you are near the bike. If your battery has one of the supported smart BMS units, pairing takes two minutes during bike registration and pays off every time you wonder about range or health.

What the numbers mean

  • Cell voltages: healthy cells stay close together. One cell consistently lower than the rest marks a weak group — the earliest warning of range loss.

  • Temperature sensors: charging or riding with a hot pack ages it fast. If temperatures climb far above ambient, let the battery cool before charging.

  • State of charge: the BMS percentage is measured at the pack — trust it over a handlebar display that only reads voltage.

  • Cycle count, balancing and protection: cycles tell you how lived-in the pack is; an active balancing indicator plus a protection flag explain sudden cutouts better than any guess.

Pairing happens during registration

There is no separate “pair Bluetooth” screen later — the BMS name is captured once, in the guided registration step called “Bluetooth battery monitor”, and stored as your bike’s VIN. That stored name is what the app scans for every time you walk up to the bike.

    Reach the “Bluetooth battery monitor” step and switch on “your bike has a compatible BMS you can pair with”.

    Stand next to the bike with Bluetooth switched on and the battery powered, then tap “Scan for your BMS”.

    Tap your BMS in the nearby-devices list — the strongest signal is the bike you are standing at. Its name fills the “BMS Bluetooth name” field; do not type it by hand.

    Finish registration, then open the bike while standing next to it: the app connects and the first readings appear. To change the name later, edit it in the bike’s settings.

Tap the scanned name — never type it. The stored name is what the app matches against every advertisement, and a single-character typo matches nothing: everything looks fine and no data ever arrives, with no error. If an existing pairing shows nothing, rescan and fix the name in the bike’s settings.

If it never connects

  • Wrong stored name — by far the most common cause. Rescan next to the bike and tap the strongest entry.

  • Bluetooth is off, or you are rooms away — pairing wants meters. Stand at the bike.

  • Another battery app is already connected to the BMS — only one Bluetooth connection fits at a time. Close the other app.

  • The BMS has no Bluetooth at all — wired-only UART versions cannot pair with a phone. Check the model.

Never open the battery pack yourself. Cell wiring carries voltages that can injure and a shorted pack can catch fire. BMS wiring and replacement belong to a qualified installer — the app side (scanning and pairing) is the safe part you do yourself.
